Remedial Massage in Taree

elbow massaging shoulderIf you suffer from chronic pain, fibromyalgia, sports injuries like sprains, strains and overuse injuries, pelvic pain during pregnancy, poor posture and high-stress situations at work, remedial massage may be the answer to improving your wellbeing.

Remedial massage is much different than a massage we think of for use for relaxation. Through a series of targeted techniques, from long, strong strokes to squeezing muscles and deep, circular motions, it will increase blood flow, release muscle tension, and promote healing throughout the body.

It has been shown to help our patients at Midcoast Chiropractic and Wellness alleviate their pain, improve mobility, aid in recovery from injury, and help correct muscle imbalances and their posture.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

Before your appointment, there are a few tasks and guidelines to follow to ensure you have the best experience possible. Do not eat too close to the appointment time, giving yourself more than 45 minutes to digest prior.

Drink plenty of water in advance – at least a half-litre, but it’s best to drink a full litre. You need the water to help the drainage that will occur throughout the body during and following massage.

Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing to the appointment to keep you relaxed and allow your massage therapist to work more effectively.

If it is your first appointment, you should arrive about 10 minutes early to complete the paperwork. Remember to inform your massage therapist if there have been any recommendations or any medical conditions that have changed since the last appointment.

Alleviate Chronic Pain and Stress, and Improve Your Posture

Patients seek out remedial massage for pain relief, most often from chronic pain throughout the body, as well as back, neck, shoulder and lower back pain. Other benefits include:

  • Improved flexibility and range of motion
  • Reduction in stress
  • Injury rehabilitation
  • Breaking up scar tissue from chronic injuries
  • Improved circulation
  • Improved posture
  • Management of chronic conditions
  • Improved sleep

You will always be asked if the pressure the therapist is applying is manageable. Given the long and deep strokes that will be used during your session, some discomfort will likely occur. If you feel extreme discomfort or pain, however, please don’t hesitate to speak up and let the therapist know.

It’s Time to Begin Your Healing

Once your appointment ends, our highly skilled therapist will recommend stretches and exercises you can do at home that will continue your healing process. We can also book your next appointment before you leave.

If you think remedial massage would be a great addition to your health and wellness regime, please contact us to schedule an appointment.
